Hubballi-Dharwad's Chitaguppi Hospital set to open new blood bank

Chitaguppi Hospital
Hubballi: In a move to strengthen healthcare services, Chitaguppi Hospital under the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is set to launch a new blood bank, addressing a long-pending demand for timely blood availability for patients.
Following KMC-RI, Chitaguppi Hospital has emerged as a lifeline for economically weaker sections, with its 100-bed facility catering to over 1,000 outpatients daily. The hospital handles an average of 1,500 normal deliveries annually, along with about 100 surgeries every month, including obstetric procedures and treatments for various medical conditions.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Chitaguppi Hospital has expanded its services to match those offered by private healthcare facilities. Currently, hundreds of patients, including pregnant women, are admitted for deliveries and various surgeries.
Speaking to TOI, Dr Sridhar Dandappanavar, health officer at HDMC, said that in order to overcome the shortage of blood, the hospital made an agreement in collaboration with the Lions Club to start a blood bank, and an MoU is being signed. Therefore, the blood bank will soon be started and will be available for the service of the public.
The hospital’s infrastructure, strengthened by donor support, now includes advanced equipment and specialised units. C-Arm imaging technology, worth Rs 20 lakhs, has enabled treatment for 52 patients with kidney-related conditions. A NICU has been established with support from the Inna Wheel Club, while the Majethia Foundation has funded a laparoscopic unit. In total, equipment worth nearly Rs 2 crore has been installed across departments.
