Balasore District Hospital Halts ICU Operations for Two Days
Balasore: Following reports of an infection in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) has suspended its critical care services for two days, Sunday and Monday, to carry out immediate corrective measures.
Sources indicated that the infection may have resulted from irregular maintenance and inadequate care of the ICU facilities. With over 500 patients visiting the OPD daily, the sudden suspension in critical care services has created a challenging situation for families seeking urgent medical attention.

They also pointed out that when the DHH functioned as a medical college, the hospital had a higher number of ICU beds, and regular maintenance protocols were followed to prevent infections. After the medical college shifted to Remuna, only six ICU beds were available at the DHH, they noted.
Addressing the issue, a senior official of the DHH stated that the ICU services were temporarily halted for routine maintenance. He assured that emergency patients are being promptly referred to other government hospitals and medical colleges for treatment and that corrective measures are underway to restore ICU operations safely.
