Inquiry ordered after pregnant woman dies at Faridabad Civil Hospital

Medical Negligence
Faridabad: The state health department has ordered an inquiry after a 22-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn baby died while undergoing treatment at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital in Faridabad on Thursday, with the woman’s family alleging medical negligence.
The woman was admitted to the hospital around 9 am on Wednesday for delivery. According to health officials, she had multiple medical complications.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the woman’s father said she suddenly started vomiting on Thursday and was taken for treatment. “Within 15 minutes, we were informed that both she and the unborn child had died,” he added. He said the doctors had advised her in-laws to shift her to a private facility, but they did not do so.
The woman’s mother-in-law alleged that no doctor attended to her for nearly one-and-a-half hours after her condition began to worsen. She claimed that the hospital staff later referred her to another hospital, but timely treatment was not provided.
Dr Jayant Ahuja, chief medical officer, said the woman had multiple medical complications. “A post-mortem examination had been conducted, and the report is awaited. A formal inquiry will be initiated after the report is received and necessary action will be taken,” he added. Ahuja said official letters have been issued to the attending doctor and nurses, directing them to submit a detailed explanation, reports Hindustan Times.
Faridabad Police PRO Yashpal Yadav said the hospital's initial report attributed the deaths to high blood pressure and related complications. He added that the woman’s father had filed a complaint alleging that her in-laws delayed shifting her to a private hospital.
Police said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and the findings of the inquiry committee.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that medical negligence has been alleged by the family of a 23-year-old woman who died at the District Civil Hospital in Sonipat barely three hours after giving birth to a baby boy through normal delivery.
