Delhi Medical Council faces Financial Crisis due to vacant post of Registrar

Srinagar: In a bid to enhance public health and uphold medical ethics, the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) has issued a stern directive to all private hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, and clinics operating in the Union Territory to ensure that their medical practitioners, whether local or from outside the region, are registered with the JKMC.

The J&K Medical Council's directive comes in response to growing concerns over unregistered medical practitioners working in private healthcare institutions across the Union Territory. In a statement, the J&K Medical Council president emphasized that the council had recently become aware of instances where certain practitioners were being allowed to work in private medical establishments, including private hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres, clinical laboratories, and blood banks in Jammu and Kashmir. The president of the J&K Medical Council strongly condemned this practice, stating that it is against the rules.

As per the recent media report in the Hindustan Times, the president said, “The J&K Medical Council strongly urges all proprietors and managing directors of private hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres, clinical laboratories and blood banks not to permit any doctor, whether from Jammu & Kashmir or outside, to practice or perform any investigation, procedure and surgeries in their establishments without having permanent registration or additional qualification registration, as required, from the J&K Medical Council.”

He added that such actions violate the rules and constitute a serious breach of professional ethics and the code of conduct. The statement further reads that the J&K Medical Council had taken serious note of the matter to safeguard human lives.

It mentioned that all proprietors and in-charges of private hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres, clinical laboratories, and blood banks should advise any doctor working without proper registration in Jammu & Kashmir to apply for and acquire registration online through the J&K Medical Council website, www.jkmedicalcouncil.in, to ensure the safety of human lives and prevent any breach of professional conduct.

The J&KMC's directive makes it clear that failure to comply with these regulations will result in serious consequences. The council has warned that any medical professional found practising without proper registration will face disciplinary action as per the guidelines set out under the Professional Conduct, Etiquette & Ethics Regulations, 2002.
