JnK Chief Secretary orders NABH Accreditation for major hospitals

Srinagar- To strengthen healthcare services in the Union Territory, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo presided over a comprehensive review meeting of the National Health Mission (NHM) and other allied health programs in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting assessed the achievements, challenges, and future roadmap of the Health and Medical Education Department. It was attended by the Commissioner-Secretary of Health and Medical Education, the MD of NHM, the Director of SKIMS, the Principals of Government Medical Colleges, the Directors of Health Services for Jammu and Kashmir, and other concerned officials.
According to the Cross Town News media news report, during the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasised the need to further strengthen healthcare delivery systems. Therefore, he directed that major health institutions located in Jammu and Srinagar must immediately initiate the process of obtaining NABH accreditation.
Additionally, he directed every medical college in these cities to appoint a Nodal Officer to ensure institutional preparedness. Also, to observe that other medical colleges and district hospitals should subsequently adopt this same model, to improve quality standards and patient care services across the entire UT, thereby enabling them to obtain accreditation under the NABH framework.
Emphasising the availability of equitable healthcare services for all, the Chief Secretary also directed the department to ensure the deployment of at least one Medical Officer at every Primary Health Centre, reiterating that no healthcare institution in Jammu and Kashmir should remain without a doctor.
While reviewing quality assurance measures, the Chief Secretary directed the Directors of Health Services to ensure the certification of all health facilities under the NQAS framework within the current year.
He also called for expediting the tendering process for the establishment of Tele-ICU, Tele-Radiology, and BEMMP facilities. These initiatives would significantly strengthen the delivery of tertiary care services and enable patients to access advanced healthcare services close to their homes.
He emphasised that adherence to quality certification and healthcare standards is mandatory to improve service delivery in government health institutions and enhance public trust.
