Karnataka: Karkala Taluk Hospital gets 10-bedded Pediatric ICU Ventilator ward
Udupi: State Minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture Sunil Kumar has inaugurated the 10-bedded Pediatric ICU Ventilator ward built at a cost of Rs. 78.18 lakh at Karkala Taluk Hospital.
Funds for the new ward were provided by Adani Foundation under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the funding and grants process under which Non-Profit Organizations (NGOs) can get financial and other support from the corporate sector.
Kishore Alva, President of Adani Group, Maniraj Shetty, president of Karnataka Cashew Development Board, Pradeep Kurdekar, tahsildar of Karkala, Dr. Nagabhushan Udupa, district health officer of Udupi, Dr K Subramanya Rao, administrative officer, Taluk Hospital and Dr Krishnanda, taluk health officer of Karkala were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Kumar said that since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, there has been a need for an ICU ward in the district for a longer period of time. Most recently after the state got hit by COVID-19 third wave.
A 12-bedded general ICU ward was also inaugurated at the ceremony at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. The funds for the project were provided by the state government.
"During the pandemic situation, public and private participation were expected to provide the required medical infrastructure facilities at Government Hospitals. A request was made through District Administration to Adani Foundation to support the District in terms of providing medical devices required to treat the COVID affected people," said Kumar.

Kishore Alva told TOI "Adani with its presence in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts in the operations of Power Plant, Airport and Gas pipeline, has executed several developmental works under its CSR and joined hands for the development of Districts. In its corporate social responsibility activities, Adani focuses on the development of rural infrastructure, health, and education. In Udupi and Kundapur, Adani gave Rs 40 lakh to provide ventilator beds for paediatric ICUs at government hospitals."
