KEM hospital ragging case: No arrests made yet, Complainant seeks immediate action
Mumbai: Days after an FIR has been filed against the medicos and doctors of the KEM Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas (GS) Medical College in an alleged case of ragging, no arrests has been made by the police yet.
The complainant alleged that the Bhoiwada police officials are lagging the case, whereas the police are saying that they would make arrests only if they find it necessary.
As per a media report in the Mid-day, the complainant said, "Since the FIR was registered and my detailed statement has been taken, no accused has even been called for an inquiry," adding, "Cops are dragging their feet, they took a month to register the offence and now the investigation is moving at a snail's pace." the complainant demanded that the accused should be arrested immediately, lest they might influence the influence the investigation or the eyewitnesses.
The medical dialogues team had earlier reported about the incident where an FIR was filed against around 16 persons including 12 medicos for allegedly making casteist remarks and harassing a third-year student of occupational therapy at GS Medical college, coming from the Scheduled Caste community. The college had suspended two medical students and served notices of misconduct to a dozen more after the incident.

A police officer told Mid-Day, "We have recorded the statements of a few eyewitnesses. There are many instances that need to be corroborated and it will take time to find out whether the alleged incidents took place," adding, "The FIR was registered a few days ago after initial panchnama and statements of the victim. The accused will be called for questioning. The case is sensitive as it involves ragging as well as caste atrocity. Making comments over the investigation and output will be premature."
Jati Ant Sangharsh Samiti, standing with the complainant, said that they would organize a protest at KEM Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Subodh More from the Samiti said, "We are demanding immediate suspension of officials who have been named as accused. Also we want cops to name the hospital dean and academic dean as accused in the FIR."
