Kerala: 10 Govt hospitals get isolation wards to treat infectious diseases
Kozhikode: With an aim to address any unexpected outbreak of infectious disease, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched 10-bed isolation wards with modern facilities at 10 government hospitals in the state.
The government has decided to launch isolation wards at 90 government hospitals in the state to prepare in advance for any unexpected outbreak of infectious disease.
Although all the wards will be launched in a phased manner, around 30 wards have been completed so far and are ready to be launched soon. The isolation wards are being set up in all constituencies as part of further preparing the health sector to deal with pandemics and other infectious diseases like COVID.

However, on Saturday few such wards were already launched in 10 government hospitals, each falling under the Assembly constituencies in the State. Following this, an event was also organised at the Government Mental Health Centre, Kuthiravattomg for the launch ceremony.
Ministers P.A. Mohamed Riyas and Ahamed Devarkovil, Thottathil Raveendran, MLA, M.K. Raghavan, MP, and Kozhikode Mayor Beena Philip were present.
Speaking at the occasion, CM Vijayan said "the aim is to address an unexpected outbreak of infectious diseases. Treatment will be offered to avoid their spread. A similar facility is coming up at the Government Dermatology Hospital, Chevayur, as well."
So far, the inauguration of isolation wards in 10 of the 90 hospitals approved for construction in the first phase that took place on Saturday. The funds for the project have been sourced together from the MLA's local area development fund and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
The government handed over the construction of the project to Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited. The corporation is responsible for carefully executing the project.
Health Minister Veena George informed TH, that the construction of 75 isolation wards would be completed by January 2023. So far, work on 30 wards has been completed.
