Kerala: New AIIMS to come up in Kinalur, Govt allots 153.46 acres of land
Thiruvananthapuram: The Centre has given a nod to the state government to establish a new building for All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), a premier health care institution. The demand for a new AIIMS building was pending for a long time.
Following the decision of the Centre, a total of 153.46 acres of land at Kinalur have been planned to be handed over by the state government to the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Kinalur is a village in Kozhikode district in the state of Kerala where the institute will be established.

As per TNIE report, the 153.46 acres of land that has been handed over to the health department were earlier allocated to the industries department about 140 acres of land, and 5 acres of land were allocated to Usha School of Athletics and other remaining acres of land were assigned to industrial purposes.
The Centre will soon inspect the land which has been allotted to the Director of Medical Education by the state government.
At present, there are 23 AIIMS campuses in India out of which 19 are functional and the rest are under construction and are expected to become functional by 2025.

The establishment of AIIMS in Kozhikode Kinaloor was discussed during the last session of Parliament by K Muraleedharan MP who raised a question. Kerala state government had received a letter from the Center stating that suitable locations should be informed about establishing AIIMS.
Accordingly, the state government had proposed three places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, and Kozhikode districts. Union Minister of State for Health Bharathi Pawar informed K Muraleedharan, MP that the Ministry of Health had recommended to the Ministry of Finance that the establishment of AIIMS in Kerala be approved in principle.
