Kin allege medical negligence in woman's death post-delivery at Puri Hospital

Medical Negligence?
Puri: A 38-year-old woman passed away at Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Monday, two days after undergoing a Caesarean section, triggering protests and demands for justice from her family. Hundreds of people gathered at the hospital, alleging medical negligence.
The deceased, a 38-year-old woman, was admitted to the DHH maternity ward for delivery on January 10 and gave birth to a baby boy. After delivery, she was shifted to a general bed along with her newborn.

According to her family, she fell off the bed on Sunday and lost consciousness. Despite informing hospital staff, she reportedly did not receive immediate medical attention. Frustrated by the delay and lack of hospital support, her family carried her to the operating theatre themselves, as no attendants were available to transport her on a stretcher. Doctors declared her dead, approximately half an hour later, she was taken to the theatre.
The victim’s father claimed that the hospital staff asked him to sign a blank paper stating that his daughter’s condition was serious, which he refused to do. He insisted on knowing the cause of death and demanded accountability before taking the body.
Kumbharpara police reached the spot and tried to pacify the bereaved family, reports TNIE.
The family, however, has expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital’s handling of the case and is demanding a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death.
