Kin alleges negligence in 2-year-old's death at Lehragaga Civil Hospital

Lehragaga: Following the death of a two-year-old boy, the family has accused a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at the Lehragaga civil hospital of medical negligence, alleging that the doctor's delay in providing timely care led to the child's death.
The deceased’s father stated that the child was suffering from a high fever when they first visited the Lehragaga Civil Hospital on July 24. They were then reportedly directed to the doctor’s private clinic located at his residence in Sunam.
The family has since filed a complaint at the Sunam police station. However, they claim they have not received any substantial response from the authorities. Sunam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harvinder Singh Khaira said he was not aware of the case. Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Prateek Jindal stated that the case falls outside police jurisdiction and must be handled by the medical board.
He said that the family had been advised to take their complaint to the civil surgeon in Sangrur, and that the complaint was being followed up.
The Doctor has refuted the allegations. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “I don’t remember treating the child on July 23. I don’t charge any consultation fee and only attend to patients on humanitarian grounds.”
