KPME Violations: 7 private medical establishments fined, 3 licences cancelled

Bengaluru: Seven private hospitals and medical establishments in Bengaluru have been fined for allegedly violating the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act, with authorities also cancelling the registration licences of three facilities.
The action followed a review by the Bengaluru Urban district administration and the KPME and Grievances Redress Authority.
Among the establishments facing penalties, Sri Ayyappan Temple Medical Centre was fined Rs 50,000, while Sri Padmagiri Clinic was fined Rs 1 lakh. Harshavardhana Hospital was fined Rs 20,000. The KPME licences of all three establishments were also cancelled.
According to reports, four other facilities were fined but did not face licence cancellation. Cloudnine Hospital was fined Rs 50,000, while Iksha Clinic and NU Hospitals Private Limited were each fined Rs 10,000. RV Clinic was issued a penalty of Rs 1 lakh.
The action was discussed at a meeting chaired by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner PS Kantaraju on Tuesday. Officials reviewed complaints and cases involving private hospitals, clinics, medical establishments and rehabilitation centres operating in the district.
According to Deccan Herald, Kantaraju directed officials to conduct inquiries into private medical establishments, hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres that had violated KPME rules and issue warnings. The establishments were also instructed to submit undertakings that they would not repeat such violations.
The KPME Act regulates private medical establishments in Karnataka and lays down requirements relating to their functioning and registration.
The district administration said continued monitoring and action against violations are necessary to ensure that private healthcare establishments follow the prescribed rules.
Senior health officials, including Bengaluru Urban District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Sirajuddin Madani and District Health Officer Nadeem Mohammad, along with district and taluk-level officials, attended the meeting.
