Lab Technician arrested for allegedly molesting minor girl at Howrah Hospital
Howrah: Tensions have escalated in Howrah Hospital following the arrest of a laboratory technician accused of molesting a minor patient. This comes amidst ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, adding to the already fraught atmosphere with this troubling new development.
The controversy began when a female patient alleged that a laboratory technician at Howrah Hospital had engaged in inappropriate behaviour during a medical procedure. According to the complaint, the technician’s actions were not only unprofessional but also deeply distressing for the patient involved.

A laboratory worker at Howrah Sadar Hospital has allegedly been accused of sexually assaulting a minor patient. The accused has been arrested by the police. According to the authorities, the minor girl was admitted to Howrah District Hospital on August 28 with chest pain and underwent a CT scan the night before the incident.
During a CT scan in the laboratory, a lab attendant allegedly molested a minor girl. After leaving the lab, the girl reported the incident to her family. In response to the incident members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) surrounded the hospital superintendent, Narayan Chattopadhyay, and staged a protest. For nearly an hour, the protesters gheraoed the superintendent’s office, with others demonstrating outside.
According to The Statement reports, the scene was met with the arrival of police officials. Dipshita Dhar, a leader of DYFI, joined the protest and expressed her outrage, saying, “We are filled with anger and frustration. When people across West Bengal and India are protesting for women’s safety, how can someone in our Howrah district have the audacity to harass a minor? We asked the superintendent why there wasn’t a female nurse present when the minor was sent to the scan room.
This responsibility lies with the hospital authorities. If there is no female nurse available, why wasn’t a family member allowed to accompany the patient? That too is the hospital’s responsibility. The superintendent couldn’t provide any answers. What can we expect from someone who doesn’t even know what’s happening inside the hospital?” Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Rajbari area in Madhyamgram, North 24- Parganas, turned into a battlefield following allegations of sexual harassment against a seven-year-old girl.

An angry mob vandalized the house of the accused and a shop belonging to his relative, doing so in front of the police. They also targeted the home of a local Trinamul Congress panchayat member. The crowd threw bricks and chanted “We want justice” during their protest. In response, a large police force and Rapid Action Force (RAF) used lathi-charges and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. The accused has been arrested, and there are allegations that Abdul Hafiz, the husband of Trinamul Congress panchayat member Nilima Bibi, tried to ‘settle’ the issue. Hafiz has also been arrested for these claims.
The situation at Howrah Hospital highlights the persistent challenges that healthcare institutions face in ensuring safety and professionalism. As protests continue and legal proceedings advance, there is an urgent need for transparent communication and effective measures to address the concerns of all parties involved.
