Maha launches weekly menopause clinics for women's health

Menopause
Pune: The Maharashtra Public Health Department on Tuesday launched dedicated menopause clinics across the state to provide structured, accessible, and specialised care for women dealing with physical and mental health challenges associated with menopause.
Under a statewide directive, special outpatient departments (OPDs) will be conducted once a week, every Wednesday at government healthcare facilities. District civil surgeons, district health officers, and municipal health authorities have been instructed to ensure the smooth rollout and effective implementation of the programme.

Speaking to Pune Mirror, Health officials mentioned that the menopause clinics will deliver comprehensive and scientific care, with treatment plans customized to individual symptoms following thorough medical assessments.
The services will go beyond routine consultations and include medical management of menopausal symptoms, counselling support, mental healthcare, dietary and lifestyle guidance, and education on calcium and vitamin D supplementation. Doctors will also recommend diagnostic tests to ensure accurate assessment and long-term health planning.
Officials noted that menopause-related health concerns often remain underreported and untreated, as many women hesitate to seek medical help due to a lack of awareness and the absence of targeted services within the public healthcare system.
“To address this gap, dedicated menopause clinics are being introduced to provide focused and confidential care to women,” said Dr Sandeep Sangale, joint director, State Family Welfare Bureau, reports Hindustan Times.
To support the initiative, authorities have also been directed to conduct Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns to raise awareness about menopause-related health issues and inform women about the availability and benefits of these clinics.
