MHA calls for CBI probe into Nagaland woman's death at Gurugram hospital
Gurugram: A private hospital has come under scanner as the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the death of a woman from Nagaland who died allegedly after eating ice cream at the facility's ICU in Gurugram.
The Ministry has further directed CBI to investigate the case of the women's nephew who was mysteriously found dead in a hotel room.
The nephew had alleged medical negligence on part of the hospital and entered into a brawl with the hospital. The very next day he was found dead inside the hotel room where he was staying.
As per a recent media report in India Today, the woman has been identified as a 29-year-old from Nagaland who was suffering from intense pain in her hands and feet and had excessive bleeding. Hence, she was admitted to the ICU (intensive care unit) of Alpha Hospital in Sector 10 of Gurugram.
After the initial treatment, her health condition improved a bit, but it soon deteriorated as she consumed ice cream in the hospital ICU in the presence of doctors. She eventually passed away on July 24th.
Her nephew who used to live with her in Delhi was present in the hospital while his aunt was undergoing treatment. After the sudden death of the patient, he had a verbal conflict with doctors and staff of the hospital and alleged medical negligence on their part. He was later found dead under unnatural circumstances in a hotel room within 24 hours of his aunty's death, reports India Today.
The family members of the deceased are suspecting that the negligence of the hospital and its staff were responsible for the death of the woman. They have also suspected foul play in the death of the nephew by the hospital personnel.
As soon as the incident came to light, many renowned leaders from Nagaland approached the Home Ministry demanding a CBI inquiry into this matter. Finally, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a CBI investigation into the deaths.
The CBI is reportedly about to register an FIR in this case and start an investigation soon.
