Udaipur: In a shocking incident, nine individuals were detained after a mob allegedly vandalised a private hospital and assaulted doctors and hospital staff in Udaipur's Kumharon Ka Bhatta area following allegations of medical negligence.
The incident sparked outrage among the medical fraternity, leading to protests and demands for enhanced security at healthcare facilities.
According to Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan, the detentions were made based on a formal complaint lodged by the hospital authorities. An investigation into the incident is currently underway. Meanwhile, CCTV footage capturing the incident has surfaced online and is being widely circulated on social media.

According to reports, the dispute began after a 50-year-old textile merchant from Koon village in the Lasadiya region was admitted to JP Orthopaedic hospital following a road accident on Tuesday. He was travelling to Udaipur on his motorcycle when he met with an accident near Kanod, suffering fractures in both arms. Local residents rushed him to the private hospital, where he underwent surgery later that afternoon.
Family members alleged that he did not regain consciousness after the surgery. His brother claimed that the patient was stable till reaching the hospital and admitted himself voluntarily. However, when his health reportedly deteriorated following surgery, tensions escalated between relatives and hospital staff.
The situation intensified around 9 p.m., prompting police personnel from three local police stations to rush to the hospital to bring the situation under control.
Doctors alleged that the mob forcibly entered the operating theatre and physically assaulted medical staff. The State President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), who arrived at the hospital during the disturbance, also claimed that he was manhandled.
“I was subjected to abusive behaviour, my clothes were torn, and I was dragged along the road," he added.
He issued a warning that if the accused were not arrested promptly, the medical fraternity would be compelled to cease work. A strategy for further action regarding this matter was formulated during a meeting of doctors held at the RNT Medical College, reports ETV Bharat.
Medical associations across the region strongly condemned the violence and demanded strict action against those responsible. Doctors met Udaipur Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan and sought immediate arrests of the accused. Following assurances from the police administration, the protesting doctors resumed work after being given a five-day timeframe for action against those involved in the incident.
The State President of IMA said CCTV footage showed 40-50 people participating in the attack, while police had initially detained nine suspects. He urged authorities to identify and arrest all those involved, reports TOI.
Meanwhile, police officials stated that the patient's condition is currently improving.
