Bikaner's Hospital Female surgery resident allegedly abused, assaulted on duty, doctors boycott services

Patna: In a disturbing incident of violence against a medical professional, a female resident doctor from the surgery department at PBM Hospital in Bikaner was reportedly abused and assaulted at the Trauma Centre of the hospital.

Following the alleged assault, resident doctors at the hospital staged a protest and boycotted their services. They are demanding strict action against the accused.

According to the resident doctors, a female surgery resident doctor on duty at the Trauma Centre was allegedly assaulted and faced serious misconduct on May 30. The doctors claimed that despite several hours having passed since the incident, no action had been taken against those responsible, reports Dainik Bhaskar

In protest against the alleged attack, the resident doctors from the Surgery, Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics departments decided to suspend their services. They stated that the boycott would continue until strict action is taken against the accused and adequate security measures are implemented for healthcare workers.

Dainik Bhaskar has reported that the resident doctors alleged that immediately after the incident, repeated attempts were made to contact hospital authorities, including the Principal, Additional Principal and Superintendent. However, they claimed that no satisfactory response was received from the administration.

Further, the doctors alleged that a police officer who reached the Trauma Centre behaved inappropriately in front of the resident doctors and appeared to support the accused persons.

Expressing concern over safety at the hospital, the resident doctors stated that similar incidents had occurred in the Trauma Centre in the past. They said that unless doctors' safety is ensured, they will not resume their duties.

The protesting doctors warned that medical services would remain suspended until the accused are booked and adequate security arrangements are put in place.
