Odisha CM inaugurates 650-bed teaching hospital at PRM MCH Baripada

Baripada- To boost healthcare infrastructure, a new 650-bed teaching hospital at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRM MCH) in Baripada was inaugurated on Monday by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The new hospital, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹258 crore, will serve as a major referral centre for North Odisha, providing services not only to Mayurbhanj but also to neighbouring districts and surrounding states.
According to officials, the PRM MCH hospital will transform the healthcare landscape of North Odisha by bringing quality medical services to those who previously had to travel long distances for treatment. With modern facilities, this centre will also support community health, maternal and child healthcare, public health research, and tribal health awareness.
Meanwhile, the State Health Minister, Mukesh Mahaling, stated that the new hospital would significantly strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in North Odisha and transform the way healthcare services are delivered.
While addressing a public meeting during the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that the government is working to add another 25 seats to the existing 125 MBBS seats at the medical college. Hence, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will increase by 500 by the next academic session.
Additionally, the number of postgraduate (PG) Medical seats will also be significantly increased to address the shortage of doctors in the state.
The Chief Minister also stated that within just 20 months of assuming office, the state's BJP government has ensured the operationalization of three new medical colleges in Jajpur, Kandhamal, and Talcher.
Speaking to The New Indian Express, he said, “The foundation stone for a medical college in Nabarangpur has been laid in February this year. We are planning new medical colleges in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak districts. To strengthen AYUSH healthcare, three new Ayurvedic medical colleges will be established in Gajapati, Malkangiri and Rayagada. New homoeopathy colleges will come up in Nayagarh and Nuapada''.
