Panic grips Jaipur Hospital after fire breaks out in operation theatre

Jaipur: Panic gripped a private hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, late Friday night after a fire broke out, prompting patients and their attendants to rush for safety. No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to police, the fire broke out in an operation theatre on the ground floor of the hospital located along the Jaipur-Delhi highway in the Chandwaji area.

Smoke soon spread from the operation theatre to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), prompting hospital authorities to evacuate patients from the affected wards as a precautionary measure.

Police personnel and hospital staff shifted patients to safer areas, while several attendants also carried their family members out of the building amid the panic, reports TOI.

Police said a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, while the exact cause of the blaze is being ascertained.

According to ABP Live, the NIMS Hospital administration has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Police and other concerned teams are gathering information and examining the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The swift evacuation helped ensure the safety of patients and staff, and no casualties were reported in the incident.

The Jaipur incident comes days after a similar fire was reported earlier at the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a fire broke out in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur around 3 pm on Tuesday, triggering panic among patients, attendants and hospital staff. According to reports, the fire erupted inside a room of the anaesthesia section attached to the operation theatre on the second floor of the department. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in an air conditioner.

Both incidents have once again highlighted the importance of electrical safety and fire preparedness in healthcare facilities.
