Patient jumps from fifth floor of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, dies
Bhubaneshwar: A 39-year-old patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneshwar.
The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Swain from Birapratappur village in Puri district. The reason behind the act is unknown and the police are investigating the case.
The patient was hospitalized on July 11 at the AIIMS and the doctors performed foot surgery on him. AIIMS PRO, Rajkishore Dash told TNIE, "He was in the burns and plastic surgery ward and at around 11.45 pm he asked his wife whether he can move in the corridor in his wheelchair."

Getting the opportunity to roam alone, the patient attempted to jump and at the same time, his wife noticed his act. She tried to stop him by grabbing him by his shirt but he slipped and fell to the ground.
It was reported that the patient was supposed to be discharged on Saturday, the same day he committed suicide. The reason to take this extreme step is yet unknown. The patient was also suffering from heart and neurological ailments.
The patient was found dead on the spot and left behind two children and her wife who are still shocked and traumatised by the situation.
"We are investigating whether the man ended his life due to financial issues. More details will emerge after a further probe," said a police officer.
