Power outage at Gurugram Civil Hospital: Action ordered against medical officer, Bio-medical engineer
Gurugram: Days after a short circuit-induced power outage interrupted the services at the Gurugram Civil Hospital, the Haryana health minister on Friday issued the suspension of the Bio-Medical Engineer and sent the principal medical officer on leave.
The outage affected the OPD services at the hospital for around over 26 hours on April 17 and 18, and the patients coming to the OPD were turned away at the gate. The computers used for patient registration were also not working properly due to the power outage.

The emergency department and other wards were functioning because of the generator, which could not be provided to other departments for fear of overload. The power reportedly came back at around 2.30 pm. The doctors were treating patients using the light from their mobile phones.
There are two gen-sets in the hospital, one of 160 kVA and another of 320 kVA. The one of 320kVA suffered a technical fault due to which it failed to start, which caused the interruption in the power supply, reports the TOI. The biomedical engineer, who is also in charge of the Diesel Generator (DG) set, Jaidev was suspended from the hospital.
The Home and Health Minister was presiding over the review meeting on the status of COVID and health resources at the PWD Rest House in Gurugram. During the meeting held at the PWD rest house, he asked about the power shortage that took place at the Sector 10 government hospital. He went through a report submitted by the deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav.
Health Minister, Anil Vij, said, "Suspend the biomedical engineer Jaidev, in charge of the DG set and send principal medical officer Dr Deepa on leave." DC Nishant Kumar Yadav also set up a committee under the chairmanship of SDM to look into the incident. The Health Minister ordered action against the officer concerned for negligence in the matter.
Meanwhile, Yadav also apprised the Home and Health Minister about the situation of COVID in the Gurugram district. Yadav said a mock drill has been done in the Gurugram district to test the preparedness to deal with COVID.
