Pregnant woman dies at Nalbari Medical College Hospital, protests erupt

Medical Negligence
Nalbari: Following the death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman at Nalbari Medical College and Hospital on Friday, a widespread protest erupted amid serious allegations of medical negligence against the hospital staff.
According to the news reports, the woman was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning in a stable condition. However, within a short span of time, her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her untimely death. Her family alleged that she was denied urgent medical attention, including oxygen support.
A female relative of the deceased said the patient was admitted around 11 am, and within 15 minutes, she began complaining of breathing difficulty and repeatedly requested oxygen. However, the hospital staff allegedly dismissed her concerns, claiming they knew better.
An ASHA worker who accompanied the patient echoed these claims, stating that she had clearly informed the hospital staff that the patient was pregnant with twins and required urgent, specialised care.

Hospital authorities have yet to release an official statement, but internal sources indicated that an inquiry will be initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death and whether medical negligence was involved.
