The seven members — two members from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Pune, two professors or assistant professors from BJ Medical College, the deputy director of health services Pune circle or his nominee and the assistant director of health services or civil surgeon of Pune district.
Pune: A new regional authorization committee has been formed by the state Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) for organ transplants at the Sassoon hospital in Pune.
Earlier after the kidney malpractice case at the Ruby hall clinic, the DMER dismissed all the former committee in the hospital and said that a new committee will be formed soon.
Nevertheless, the committee has been formed and will be headed by the dean or superintendent of BJ Medical College and Sassoon Hospital.
The DMER issued a notice stating that the new committee including seven members have been given the charge of the former committee led by the superintendent of the Sassoon hospital.

The seven members — two members from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Pune, two professors or assistant professors from BJ Medical College, the deputy director of health services Pune circle or his nominee and the assistant director of health services or civil surgeon of Pune district.
Dilip Mhaisekar, director of Medical Education and Research, told TOI, "With this development, the new live donor organ transplant applications could be assessed from their respective hospitals. After the regional committee of Sassoon hospital was dissolved, the new applications were verified by the state panel."
Dr VP Kale, dean, BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital said, "The regional committee will be headed by the superintendent of Sassoon hospital. Currently, Dr Vijay Jadhav is in-charge superintendent, and the position will be filled soon. The other members' names will be communicated to the state within a week."
Many doctors are demanding that the new committee include a police official and a legal advisor Dr Vinayak Kale told Hindustan Times.
"The process of vetting of documentation of the donor and recipient requires the committee to send the documents to the police station. Many doctors are now demanding that instead of that, a police official and a legal advisor be on the committee itself. This may further ensure that there are no loopholes in the process of vetting," said Dr Kale.
