Punjab Govt forms panel to probe Knee Surgery Death at Mohali hospital

Punjab and Haryana High Court
Mohali: Following the death of a 63-year-old patient after knee replacement surgery at Mohali’s Grecian Hospital, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was informed that a committee has been formed to investigate the alleged medical negligence.
The investigation will be carried out by a four-member committee constituted by the Mohali Civil Surgeon. The panel will be headed by Dr. Anupam Mahajan, Head of Orthopaedics at AIIMS, Mohali, and will include Dr. Amit Pal, Dr. Harpreet, and Dr. Anamika Soni. The investigation will take place at District Hospital/AIIMS Mohali, and the committee has been directed to submit its report with comments within a week.
The action was initiated following a complaint lodged by the patient’s son, Dr. Abhishek Dhiman, a Delhi-based doctor, through his counsel, Madhup Munjal. In the complaint, Dr. Dhiman stated that the patient had undergone multiple preoperative tests before the knee replacement surgery on March 5, 2025.
His father suffered a cardiac arrest around 5 am in the recovery room and was shifted to the ICU. On March 10, he suffered a second cardiac arrest and passed away. He alleged that his father died due to negligence on the part of the respondents, reports the Tribune India.
Justice Suvir Sehgal has adjourned the hearing to December 17, allowing the expert committee to carry out its investigation and submit findings before the next court session.
