Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital launches e-prescription facility for OPD patients
Raiganj: Introducing an electronic form of writing prescriptions, the administration of Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal launched an e-prescription for the patients visiting the Out Patient Department (OPD) of skin and mental units on Friday, June 2.
The patient's details would now be recorded in a database, and doctors would be able to access the patient's records anytime with a click of a button using the patient's registration number.

Speaking to Millenium Post, Avik Maity, Assistant Superintendent of Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital, said, "As per the direction of the state health department, we have introduced the e-prescription system in the OPD for skin and mental departments. Under this system, the patients themselves can get tickets from the website of our state health department or from our medical college counter. A registration number and a barcode will be provided to them. In this process, the patients will not have to wait for a long time for treatment also and all the data regarding the patient can also be retrieved with a click."
The people have reportedly welcomed the hospital's move, as the e-prescription allows recording the patients' information virtually through the internet, which would be stored permanently in the system. Sometimes, manual or hand-written prescriptions often get lost, due to which the doctors often fail to retrieve the case history of an illness and previous medications prescribed.
The Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital was established in the year 2018 and is located in Raiganj, Uttar Dinajpur region of West Bengal. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The hospital associated with the college is one of the largest hospitals in the Uttar Dinajpur district.
