RIMS Imphal faces outrage after death of 50-year-old patient

Medical Negligence
Imphal: Allegations of medical negligence have once again surfaced at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, after the death of a 50-year-old patient who reportedly did not receive timely treatment. Following the incident, the family of a patient staged a protest inside the hospital premises, demanding accountability from the staff.
According to news reports, the deceased has been identified as a resident of Sekta Village under the Lamlai Police Station, who had been admitted to RIMS for treatment, but his condition deteriorated and he was declared dead shortly after. The incident led to a heated confrontation between hospital staff and the deceased's relatives.
The situation quickly escalated into a public outcry as a large crowd gathered at the hospital premises demanding justice and accountability.

According to Imphal Times, the aggrieved family has demanded strict action against the doctor concerned and immediate intervention by authorities to prevent such incidents in the future. Security has been tightened in the hospital complex to prevent further escalation.
This latest case follows closely on the heels of another recent death at the same hospital after being administered the wrong injection. That incident, too, had sparked public anger and protests over repeated complaints of lapses in patient care at the state’s premier medical institution.
The family of a 52-year-old woman protested inside a key government hospital here, alleging that she died because of medical negligence, reports India Today NE.
The family has refused to collect the body until the doctors involved are dismissed from service.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that amid the ongoing protests by the medical, dental, nursing, and paramedical students at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, accusing the institute's Director of mental harassment and abuse, the Dean and Sub-Dean stepped down from their posts by submitting their resignations.
