RIMS Ranchi nurse beaten, hair pulled by patient attendants over doctor's unavailability
Nurse assualtedThe nursing staff alleged that a female attendant, who was accompanied by a male relative, pushed her from behind, pulled her hair tightly, and started beating her.
She alleged that a female attendant, accompanied by a male attendant, came to the hospital to visit the patient and asked her about a particular doctor, questioning why he was not on duty. The nurse informed them that the doctor had already completed his duty and had gone home.
However, the attendant reportedly started shouting, accusing the doctors and nurses of not being available on duty. Despite the nurse clarifying that the concerned doctor was not on shift, the male attendant allegedly began recording a video. The nurse asked him to stop recording and then stepped outside to check on other patients.
At that point, the situation escalated. The nurse claimed that the female attendant pushed her from behind and pulled her hair. She was allegedly beaten and threatened. The attendant reportedly claimed she was associated with a political party and challenged the nurse to take action if she wished.
The ward in charge later rescued the nurse who was pleading to stop beating her.

Following the incident, the nurse said she informed the Medical Superintendent (MS) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS). However, she alleged that they asked her to remain silent and avoid raising her voice against patient attendants in such matters.
In protest against the incident, a large number of nurses gathered outside the Trauma Centre and raised slogans against the RIMS management. The nurses stated that until the accused is arrested, services at the institute will remain completely suspended. The nursing staff clearly stated that if healthcare workers are not safe in the hospital, how will they be able to perform their duties?
The nursing union has warned that if the accused is not arrested soon and effective steps are not taken to protect healthcare workers, the agitation will be intensified.
Expressing her frustration, the nurse questioned whether it was wrong for her to perform her duties diligently, as the administration repeatedly ignores such incidents and fails to take action. She stated that she was the only nurse attending to more than 36 patients at the time.
“But the hospital authorities are not supporting us; they are supporting the patient’s attendants who assaulted me,” she said, seeking support from the public and the nursing community.
