Ahmedabad: MBBS student, 2 friends allege assault, 8 booked, 3 arrested

Ahmedabad: A 23-year-old MBBS student at a medical college attached to a multi-speciality hospital in Chandkheda, along with two of his friends, were allegedly assaulted by a group of men in the Nikol area of Ahmedabad.
For this, eight individuals have been booked on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, intentionally causing hurt with dangerous weapons, unlawful assembly, rioting, obscene acts and songs, and criminal intimidation, in an FIR registered based on a complaint by the MBBS student and his two friends. Among them, three have been arrested so far.
According to the complaint, the MBBS student had returned from his training duty and went with one of his friends to collect a scooter that had been given for repair at a garage near the Viratnagar Bridge. As the garage was closed, the two sat on a parked two-wheeler under the bridge while waiting.
At that time, the student alleged that around seven to eight men approached them, slapped the student and questioned why they were sitting there. The accused reportedly demanded their names and checked his mobile phone. The group then allegedly started punching and kicking them.
However, the two managed to run away, but the situation worsened when the student later returned to the area along with the police after calling the emergency helpline. He alleged that two to three men attacked him again from behind, and one of them hit him on the head with a stick.
As per TOI media report, the attackers also allegedly used abusive language and issued death threats. Meanwhile, the student’s second friend, who happened to pass through the same area, was also assaulted by the group.
The student told investigators that he heard the assailants calling out each other's names during the attack and later identified several of them. He was taken to a hospital in Rakhiyal for treatment and later discharged.
Police said further investigation was underway and efforts were underway to trace and arrest the accused.
