New Delhi: Bringing relief to the doctors who graduated from the RML Hospital, New Delhi, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), operative under the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted recognition to the new name of PGIMER & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
With this, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, the new name of RML Hospital has been recognized by NMC.
In a letter directed to the Director and Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Prabhat Kumar, the Under Secretary to the Govt of India stated, "Reference is invited to your letter No. 30-56/2021/Acad/ABVIMS dated 05.10.2021 on the subject cited above. In this regard, it is stated that this Commission has no objection for the change of name from PGIMER & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi."
With this, the problems of the doctors who have recently graduated from the Institute are likely to end as now that the new name of the institute has been recognized by NMC, it is likely to end the troubles of the doctors in getting the DMC registration.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the new name of the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital had been pending for quite some time.
The name of the institute, which was earlier known as Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and RML Hospital, was changed back in 2019 to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences. However, as it didn't receive the required recognition from NMC, the apex medical body, it had landed the recently postgraduate doctors of the institute in a fix.
Even though the new name hadn't been granted with recognition, the institute had started issuing degrees in the new name and resultantly the doctors were being unable to join services. It was ultimately leading towards their unemployment for the time being as the DMC registration is a must for practicing medicine in any Government or Private hospital within Delhi. In fact, amidst all this confusion, the postgraduate doctors from RML hospital were unable to join even their own institutes.
After a long wait, finally the new name of RML Hospital has received recognition from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
"In this regard, it is stated that this Commission has no objection for the change of name from PGIMER & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, to Atal Bihari Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi," mentioned the NMC letter directed to Dr. V. K. Tiwari, the Director & Medical Superintendent of PGIMER & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
