RMLIMS Lucknow toexpand with 350-bed trauma centre, 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital

Lucknow- To enhance medical facilities, the state-run Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, will soon operationalise a 350-bed Level-1 trauma centre and a 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital, along with new critical care and advanced treatment facilities.
The announcement was made by Director Prof CM Singh during the third convocation ceremony held on Monday.
According to the MSN news report, a trauma centre will be constructed near the second campus located on Shaheed Path. This will be the second facility of its kind in the state, following the one at KGMU. To alleviate the burden on the KGMU trauma centre, the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated approximately 16,000 square meters of land for this project.
In addition, a 100-bed critical care centre is nearing completion to address the shortage of ICU beds, while the construction of a hostel with a total capacity of 888 beds is underway.
To operate the expanded facilities, the institute will also require approximately 150 faculty members, 863 non-teaching staff, and 72 outsourced staff members.
Apart from this, the institute is also planning to launch liver and bone marrow transplant facilities this year. The infrastructure is ready, most of the equipment has arrived, and approximately 300 kidney transplants have been performed so far.
A Gamma Knife facility for advanced neurosurgery will also be installed soon. The Neurosciences Centre has already performed deep-brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson's disease and other complex procedures.
Therefore, this expansion will improve patient care by ensuring timely treatment, reducing waiting times, and easing the burden on existing hospitals. Additionally, the new facilities will provide comprehensive treatment in a single location, thereby reducing the need for referrals outside the state.
