Rs 5,000 crore Regional Medical Hub planned in UP's Jewar to boost medical tourism

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has identified Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district for the development of a regional medical hub with an estimated investment of Rs 5,000 crore, to position the state as a leading destination for medical value tourism.

The proposed UP Cares Jewar Regional Medical Hub will be developed across nearly 200 acres and is envisioned as an integrated ‘medicity’ offering comprehensive healthcare services under one roof. The project will bring together multi-speciality hospitals, medical education, research centres, advanced diagnostics, rehabilitation services and other allied healthcare infrastructure.

According to the news reports, the project is proposed to be funded by the World Bank, which has already prepared a preliminary project report. Representatives from the international financial institution are expected to present the project details before Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary SP Goyal.

The presentation, initially scheduled for July 28, could not take place for various reasons and will be rescheduled soon, after which the project is expected to move to the next stage of planning, officials said.

The project gains importance following the announcement of the Union Budget 2026-27, which proposed support for states to establish five regional medical hubs in partnership with the private sector to promote India as a global centre for medical value tourism. These hubs are planned as integrated healthcare complexes combining treatment, education and research facilities.

“The hub proposed in Jewar will house AYUSH centres, MVT facilitation centres, advanced diagnostic infrastructure, post-treatment care and rehabilitation facilities,” the official said, adding, “Besides improving healthcare access for domestic and international patients, the hub is also expected to generate large-scale employment for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals,” reports Hindustan Times.

Jewar has emerged as one of Uttar Pradesh’s key infrastructure corridors with the upcoming international airport, expressways and logistics projects. Officials believe that the region’s connectivity will help attract patients from across India and abroad while strengthening the state’s healthcare and investment ecosystem.

In a recent post on 'X', the Uttar Pradesh Information and Public Relations Department said the proposed Regional Medical Hub in Jewar aims to boost medical value tourism, expand access to advanced healthcare services and create new opportunities through world-class medical, research and rehabilitation facilities.

The proposed medical hub is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader strategy to expand healthcare infrastructure and position the state as a competitive destination for medical tourism.
