SCB Medical College data entry operator arrested over alleged Rs 1.40 crore fraud
Cuttack: A data entry operator working at the office of the SCB Medical College and Hospital Superintendent in Cuttack has been arrested over an alleged financial irregularity of Rs 1.40 crore involving the manipulation of employees’ salary data.
Mangalabag police arrested the accused after the hospital administration filed a complaint alleging tampering with salary-related records of medical college employees.
According to TNIE, the accused was reportedly handling salary-related work, including TA, DA and leave salary, for hospital staff. During an audit, discrepancies with salary data were detected. The report revealed the manipulation had resulted in irregularities of around Rs 1.4 crore
The alleged manipulation is suspected to have caused significant financial losses, with the irregularities estimated at around Rs 1.40 crore.
Following the audit findings, the SCB Medical College and Hospital Superintendent approached Mangalabag police and lodged a complaint seeking investigation into the suspected financial misconduct.
Police subsequently began examining the salary records and other relevant documents to determine how the alleged manipulation was carried out and identify the extent of the financial irregularity.
The investigation is also expected to establish whether the arrested employee acted alone or whether other individuals were involved in the alleged tampering of official records.
According to Odisha TV, data and work related to the salaries of employees at the medical college were being managed through the data entry operator. An audit report subsequently found alleged discrepancies and tampering in the salary-related data.
Further investigation is underway, and police are examining the audit findings and relevant financial records as part of the probe.
