Show-cause notices issued after dog carries away amputated leg from Vijayawada GGH

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered an inquiry into an incident in which a stray dog allegedly carried away an amputated leg from the storeroom of the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada.
Following the incident, the show-cause notices were issued to the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Superintendent over the alleged lapses in biomedical waste disposal.
According to reports, doctors at the GGH had amputated an infected leg of a patient and stored it in the disposal storeroom. However, a stray dog reportedly entered the storeroom, took away the amputated leg, and ate it partially.
According to an UNI report, the Health Minister took the issue seriously and sacked the sanitation staff for dereliction of duty. A notice was also issued to the private agency that is managing the disposal of the biowaste of the GGH.
