Show-cause notices issued to Barasat Medical College staff after inspection

Show-Cause Notice
West Bengal: The West Bengal Health Department has initiated action against officials at Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital after State Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee reportedly found deficiencies in patient care and hospital administration during an inspection on Thursday.
During the visit, the minister reviewed various departments and assessed the functioning of patient services. Following the inspection, the department identified lapses in the management of the hospital and sought an explanation from the officials concerned.
According to the Daily, the ward master and several other staff members were issued show-cause notices and directed to submit their response within 24 hours. The action is part of the state government's efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services and strengthen accountability in government-run hospitals.
According to The Times of India, Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee expressed dissatisfaction over the lapses observed during his visit to Barasat Medical College and warned the hospital administration to improve its functioning. Following the inspection, show-cause notices were issued to the ward master and other staff members, directing them to explain the deficiencies within 24 hours.
The development comes amid the state's continued focus on improving healthcare delivery across government hospitals through regular monitoring and administrative oversight. Authorities are expected to examine the responses submitted by the staff before deciding on any further action.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State Health Assurance Society (SHAS) has issued show-cause notices to 35 hospitals empanelled under the AB-PMJAY and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY) for failing to submit renewed fire safety certificates despite the expiry of their existing certificates.
