SMS Hospital: Pregnant woman dies after wrong blood transfusion, 5 staff held responsible

Pregnant Woman Dies After Blood Transfusion Error at Jaipur Hospital
Jaipur: Following the death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman at Sawai Man Singh (SMS Hospital) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, an investigating committee has confirmed that she died after being transfused with the wrong blood type. The committee has held five junior staff members responsible, while the senior officials supervising them have been effectively exonerated.
According to the news reports, the woman was admitted to SMS Hospital on May 12 in critical condition with extremely low haemoglobin, miliary tuberculosis, and multiple health complications reportedly received a blood transfusion on May 20 after tests on May 19 indicated her blood type as A+. However, a subsequent test allegedly revealed her blood type was B+, raising concerns of a possible transfusion mismatch. She passed away on May 22 following severe reactions, including haematuria, tachycardia, fever, and chills.
