Surgical gloves, wipes allegedly left inside woman after C-section at Beed Hospital

Medical Negligence
Mumbai: In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a 19-year-old woman is reportedly battling for her life after surgical gloves and paper wipes were allegedly left inside her abdomen following a C-section at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Beed district.
According to the news reports, the woman underwent the caesarean delivery on August 1 and was discharged four days later. However, she later developed excruciating abdominal pain, prompting her family to rush her to a private hospital.

The incident has left the woman’s family deeply distressed. Her husband has accused the medical team involved in the surgery of serious incompetence, while her mother said that her daughter has become so weak that she is unable to properly hold her newborn baby.
The family has approached the district hospital administration seeking action over the alleged lapse. On Tuesday, they filed a complaint regarding the incident.
Speaking to NDTV, Beed District Surgeon Satishkumar Solanke has confirmed that notices have been issued to the doctor and the staff who were involved in the surgical procedure. He has also assured that strict disciplinary action will be taken if they are found guilty by the health department.
After the matter was escalated to the Deputy Director of Health Services (Latur Circle), a special inquiry committee was formed. The probe panel arrived at the Beed District Hospital on Wednesday afternoon and began an investigation, the official said. While the show-cause notice seeks an explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against the operating doctor, the entire OT (operation theatre) team is under the scanner over the alleged lapse, he said, reports PTI.
The shocking incident has raised serious concerns over surgical safety, medical accountability and patient care at the government hospital.
