Telangana: Health Minister lays foundation stone of New government medical college and hospital
Mahabubabad: With an aim to provide better healthcare to the people, Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a new government medical college and hospital in the district at a cost of Rs 550 crore.
Rao informed at the occasion that Mahabubabad will soon receive a project worth Rs 8.60 crore, including new Primary Health Centres, the upgrade of existing Health Centres, and other facilities that will give the district a significant boost.
While speaking about the increase of MBBS seats, Rao told Telangana Today, "There were only three government colleges and 700 medical seats in the Telangana region in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State. But 33 medical colleges will come up in 33 districts due to special measures taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. MBBS seats will increase up to 5420 within a year."

The new district hospital will increase the beds in the district from 100 to 650 and more doctors will be recruited for the hospital rising from 10 to 100. The hospital has a radiology services wing, a 41-bed general ward and a dedicated paediatric care unit.
Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development E. Dayakar Rao, Minister for Tribal, Women and Child Welfare Satyavathi Rathod, local legislator B. Shankar Naik and chairman of Telangana State Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation Errolla Srinivas were present at the occasion.

Taking advantage of all the opportunities that have been provided to citizens of the district is of utmost importance said, Rao. Since hypertension disease has been increasing rapidly crossing 1.80 crore affected people in the State after screening. The government has released a kit for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) treatment inaugurated at the Peddathanda in Kuravi Mandal in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, he suggested the health department ensure the distribution of the NCD kits for those suffering from Hypertension and Diabetes.
Later, he called out the BJP government for sanctioning a total of 157 medical colleges for several states, but not even one for Telangana.
