Telangana Hospital reception set ablaze amid protest over alleged medical negligence

Bhadradri Kothagudem: A private hospital in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district witnessed chaos after relatives of a deceased patient allegedly set fire to the hospital’s reception area, accusing the medical staff of negligence.

The deceased was a 36-year-old tribal Sarpanch from Dantelaboru village in Palvoncha mandal. She had been admitted to the private hospital a few days ago after falling ill but died while undergoing treatment.

Following her death, family members staged a protest outside the hospital, alleging that negligence by the hospital staff had led to her death and demanding justice.

According to the deceased's husband, doctors allegedly administered an overdose of medication, which he claimed resulted in her death. He further alleged that hospital authorities shifted her to a hospital in Khammam only after her condition deteriorated significantly.

The family members also accused the doctors of failing to provide a satisfactory explanation about the patient's death and alleged that the hospital management showed negligence in handling the situation.

Angered by the alleged lack of response from the hospital authorities, the relatives continued their protest on the hospital premises. During the demonstration, one of the family members allegedly attempted to set the reception counter on fire.

Police intervened immediately, doused the flames and brought the situation under control. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The findings of the investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death and the events that followed at the hospital.

Reacting to the incident, the doctor posted on 'X', urging people to stop violence against healthcare professionals.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a recent incident of violence against healthcare professionals, relatives of an elderly patient who died while undergoing treatment at Islampur Subdivisional Hospital in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district allegedly attacked on-duty doctors, nurses and other hospital staff and vandalised the facility.
