Telangana: NIMS, TIMS Hospitals to get premium suites for international patients
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to soon introduce specialised international patient services at the upcoming Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals in Sanathnagar, Alwal, and LB Nagar, as well as at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, which is currently undergoing expansion.
The objective of this initiative is to bring government hospitals on par with private corporate hospitals, which currently attract a significant share of patients arriving from abroad. It also forms part of a broader strategy to promote medical tourism in Hyderabad.
Each TIMS facility and the expanded NIMS will feature 50 rooms, specifically designed as 'Premium Suites' for international patients. These suites will be equipped with facilities aligned with global standards, ensuring comfort, privacy, and specialised care.
Speaking to TOI, a senior health official said, ''These suites will be equipped to match global expectations, ensuring comfort, privacy, and specialised care. The initiative aims to attract patients from regions such as Africa and the Middle East, including Oman, as well as parts of Europe, where the demand for affordable, high-quality healthcare is increasing''.
In this regard, the government is preparing to hold discussions with several countries and sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to facilitate the movement of patients, reports TOI.
Attracting international patients will generate additional revenue for government hospitals. This revenue can then be reinvested in improving infrastructure, equipment, and patient care services for local residents.
Representatives from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East are expected to attend a major international medical tourism event taking place in June, which will further strengthen its global reach.
In addition to patient care facilities, the government is also proposing the construction of an international convention centre at TIMS Sanathnagar.
This proposed infrastructure will feature a large auditorium capable of hosting global medical conferences, a dedicated research centre to foster collaboration and innovation and guest accommodation facilities for visiting doctors, researchers, and speakers.
