Thefts at AIIMS Delhi: 400 CCTV cameras to be installed in hostels
According to a senior administrative official, cameras would be installed at the entry, exit points and common areas with an aim towards security, safety and access control and preventing theft cases. It would also ensure that the privacy of the residents is not compromised in any way, said the official.
New Delhi: After issues related to security concerns were raised by the resident doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, the hospital administration has decided to install around 400 CCTV cameras to check the movement of outsiders and delivery boys in the campus.
Following a number of theft cases reported from the hostels a few months back, the administration had issued a circular in July preventing the entry of delivery agents. Subsequently, the students and resident doctors were directed to go to the main gate to collect their parcels/goods.

However, the resident doctors opposed this move citing their difficulty in travelling to the main gate after long hours of duty for collecting parcels, following which the order was withdrawn. Instead, they demanded the administration to install CCTV cameras for surveillance and security.
The AIIMS administration has begun the tendering process to purchase and install CCTV systems at the 25 hostels, which also include the nursing and trauma centre hostels. The opening date of the bid is November 21 for installing 381 cameras including HP IP dome camera (38), HD IP bullet camera (324) and HD IP PTZ CCTV camera (19) along with network video recorder, reports the Times of India.
According to a senior administration official, cameras would be installed at the entry, exit points and common areas with an aim towards security, safety and access control and preventing theft cases. It would also ensure that the privacy of the residents is not compromised in any way, said the official.
A senior resident doctor said that all kinds of mishaps would be prevented with the installation of CCTV cameras, however, emphasized that the privacy of the students and resident doctors should not be compromised in the process. The doctor said that the authority needs to ensure the privacy of the students and doctors while installing the cameras.
