According to the Hindu, it is reported that the doctor was intoxicated while attending patients in the Outpatient Department on Thursday morning. Witnessing this, a member of the public recorded a video and shared it on social media.
In response, the hospital administration issued a notice to the doctor requesting an explanation for his behaviour. The hospital also initiated an internal inquiry into the matter.
Based on the findings of the inquiry, J. Sangumani, the Director of Medical Education, ordered the doctor's suspension on Friday. Silas Jeyamani, the Resident Medical Officer of the hospital, confirmed the suspension.
The incident has sparked concerns regarding the professionalism and accountability of medical practitioners, especially in government hospitals where challenges related to resources and staffing are often prevalent.
