Patient Death Sparks Confusion and Violence at Ulhasnagar Hospital
Thane: Following the death of a 47-year-old woman suffering from pneumonia, a mob of over 100 people vandalised a private hospital in Ulhasnagar. The patient's relatives alleged that the hospital kept her on ventilator support until her bill was settled, claiming she had already passed away.
The hospital, however, refuted the allegations, stating that the woman's condition deteriorated during the transfer process and all efforts to revive her failed.
According to the news reports, the woman was admitted to Anil Multispecialty Hospital in Ulhasnagar on November 28 due to severe pneumonia. She passed away on Monday evening while arrangements were being made to shift her to Jupiter Hospital in Thane for advanced care.

Hospital sources, however, stated that she was placed on a ventilator immediately upon admission due to her critical condition. When her health deteriorated despite treatment, the family was advised to shift her to Jupiter Hospital for advanced care. During the transfer, her heart rate slowed, and she was brought back to the ICU, where doctors administered CPR for around 20 minutes, but she could not be revived.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Deepak Sirwani, head of Anil Multispecialty Hospital, said that around 100–150 persons vandalised the hospital on Monday evening because of misinformation spread by some relatives. “The allegations are not correct. A doctor from the patient’s family was present in the hospital from the time she was admitted, and following his assurance, they accepted that she was alive when she was discharged. CCTV footage of the ICU also shows that she was alive while CPR was being administered,” he added.

Shankar Autade, senior police inspector at the Central Police Station (Ulhasnagar), stated that there had been some miscommunication from both parties, but it was later resolved amicably, and no formal complaint was lodged by either party.
