UP Medical Education team inspects Gonda Medical College after viral rats video

UP Govt Acts After Rats Spotted in Gonda Medical College Ward
Gonda: After a video showing rats moving freely inside a hospital ward went viral on social media, a team from the Uttar Pradesh Department of Medical Education visited the Government Medical College in Gonda district on Sunday to inspect hygiene, patient facilities, and overall arrangements.
The inspection was carried out at the direction of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. According to PTI, the action comes after a video showing rats moving freely in the orthopaedics ward, running from the oxygen pipeline to patients’ beds, had gone viral a few days ago.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a Government medical college in Gonda district has come under sharp criticism after a shocking video from its orthopaedics ward went viral on social media, showing rats roaming freely near patients’ beds and even close to the oxygen pipeline, raising serious concerns over hygiene and patient safety.
Speaking to the Daily Pioneer, Director (Medical Care) Dr Sandeepa Srivastava, who led the team, said the state Government had directed them to visit the medical college and submit a report on the entire incident. Despite the OPD remaining closed on Sunday, the team inspected the orthopaedics wards, among others, and gathered information about the existing arrangements, she said.” The facts that emerged during the inspection are being compiled, and a report will be submitted to the Government soon,” Srivastava added.
Taking immediate action after the video went viral, the state government suspended the entire staff of the concerned ward. District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan also visited the medical college and directed officials to shift OPD services to the newly constructed multi-storey building at the earliest.
Medical Superintendent Dr D.N. Singh said that from January 19, most OPD services would be operated from the new building. He also announced the implementation of a “one patient, one attendant” policy for admitted patients to reduce overcrowding. Visiting hours for attendants have been fixed from 7 am to 8 am, 1 pm to 2 pm, and 4 pm to 6 pm. At all other times, only one attendant will be allowed with each patient.
The medical college administration has also begun taking strict action against those found littering or consuming tobacco and gutkha on campus, including the imposition of fines, in an effort to improve cleanliness and patient care standards.
Meanwhile, even before the probe into the rats incident was completed, another video allegedly from the same medical college surfaced on social media, showing three dogs sitting on a hospital bed next to a patient. However, officials said the time and ward where the video was recorded could not be verified.
