Mangaluru: In a recent move to improve the healthcare sector, Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa emphasised on Monday that doctors in government hospitals should not prescribe medicines to be bought from outside under any circumstances. He directed that all government hospitals must prominently display contact numbers for Lokayukta district and state authorities to maintain transparency in the healthcare sector. This move aims to make it easier for the public to report grievances and for Lokayukta to register suo motu cases if necessary.
During his speech, he criticized that private institutions were charging Rs. one to two lakh even for daycare facilities. He highlighted systemic corruption as the root of the issue and called on women to raise their voices against it, stating that wealth gained through corruption does not lead to true happiness.

In his speech, he stated that after 78 years of Independence, there is a need to introspect about where we stand. According to TOI, he said, “There is an apprehension that there may be a situation where we may have to launch another struggle for Independence specifically for our rights. The failure on the part of the four pillars of democracy will lead to corruption.”
He also highlighted that the public must fulfil their duties as outlined in the Constitution while fighting for their rights. In addition to addressing corruption, he emphasized the need for environmental protection, stressing that the survival of mankind depends on safeguarding nature.
