VIMS Visakhapatnam to soon get 50-bed AYUSH hospital, naturopathy college at cost of Rs 31 crore
Visakhapatnam: In order to make health services accessible to patients, an Ayush Hospital and a yoga and naturopathy medical college and hospital are set to be constructed soon on the premises of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).
These two specialised institutes will provide traditional health and wellness treatments that are cost-effective for the patients. The yoga and naturopathy medical college and hospital will offer treatment for diseases using the system of yoga and naturopathy.
Yoga has succeeded as an alternative form of therapy for diseases such as asthma, diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis, digestive disorders and other ailments of chronic nature. According to medical scientists, yoga therapy is successful because of the balance created in the nervous and endocrine system which directly influences all the other systems and organs of the body.

Whereas, Naturopathy is a natural healing technique using the healing powers of nature. As a combined entity, the medical college and hospital specializing in yoga and naturopathy will complement the regular allopathic services offered at VIMS.
Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the premier super-speciality hospitals. It is located in the heart of the city of Visakhapatnam. It is a territory care hospital with 650 beds catering for the needs of the North Andhra districts of Andhra Pradesh (East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam) and also the neighbouring states like Odisha and Chattisgarh.
This institute is well known for its rich apex tertiary referral care centre with rich clinical material. It has acquired the state of the art equipment. VIMS offers evidence-based patient-centred care as well as population health management. VIMS has introduced advanced services in recent times in the departments of neurosurgery, surgical oncology, pulmonology, orthopaedics, etc
The government will sanction Rs 31 crore for the establishment of Ayush Hospital and the yoga and naturopathy medical college and hospital. For the establishment of these facilities at VIMS, the state government has recently floated tenders.
VIMS director Dr K Rambabu informed TOI that they were asked for a three-acre land on the VIMS premises to establish a 50-bedded Ayush hospital and a yoga and naturopathy medical college.
“These would transform VIMS into a medical hub by integrating the new facilities with mainstream medicine. By having all these facilities in one place, the patients would find it easy to access different medical services,” said Dr Rambabu.
