Viral video of doctor riding motorcycle inside Fortis Hospital Mohali sparks debate

Fortis Mohali Responds After Viral Motorcycle Ride During Hospital Celebration
Mohali: A doctor was seen riding a motorcycle through the corridors of Fortis Hospital, Mohali, during its Silver Jubilee celebrations, with a video of the incident going viral on social media and triggering debate over decorum within hospital premises.
The viral clip shows a robotic gynaecological surgeon at Fortis Mohali arriving at the event venue as a pillion rider on a motorcycle that was driven through the hospital premises. As the motorcycle reached the stage area, the audience cheered for her before she stepped off in a special outfit prepared for the hospital’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The video, posted on 30 June, has since gone viral, drawing criticism online and raising questions about professionalism inside the hospital.
Although the original video was later removed from the hospital's official social media account, it had already been widely shared.
The celebrations marked 25 years of the hospital’s operations and featured participation from doctors, nurses, caregivers, and administrative staff. Cultural performances and stage acts were also part of the programme, highlighting the contributions of healthcare workers over the years.
According to the news reports, while some viewers appreciated the festive atmosphere, others questioned the appropriateness of riding a motorcycle inside a hospital environment, even during celebrations. Critics expressed concern that such displays may not align with the expected decorum of a healthcare institution, where patients typically require a calm and disturbance-free environment.
The visual also triggered nostalgia among some users, who drew comparisons to a popular sequence from the film 3 Idiots, in which a character rushes an injured patient into a hospital on a scooter. Interestingly, parts of that film were also shot at Fortis, adding to the online discussion.
Following online criticism, the hospital issued an official statement defending the event.
According to India Today, "We would like to clarify that our 25th anniversary celebration was conducted in a responsible and well-planned manner. The event was held on a Sunday in the OPD lobby, which remains closed to patients on that day. It was attended by our doctors, nurses, paramedics, and administrative and support staff to mark an important milestone in the hospital’s journey," the statement read. "At no point were emergency services, inpatient wards, critical care areas, or any patient care services impacted. All clinical operations continued seamlessly, with adequate staffing and strict adherence to hospital safety and operational protocols, ensuring there was no disruption or inconvenience to any patient or attendant," it added.
