Viral Video of Empty Doctor's Room at SKIMS Sparks Outrage
Srinagar: Following allegations of negligence in patient care, the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura is once again under scrutiny after a viral video has triggered widespread outrage. The video, which shows an empty doctor's room and a lack of medical staff, has raised concerns about the patient care standards.
A viral video as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust recorded by the daughter of a patient in Ward 4A of the Nephrology Section claims that for over an hour, no doctors or paramedical staff were available to attend to approximately 40 patients admitted to the ward.
The video, which has ignited widespread outrage, depicts vacant doctors' rooms and a shortage of medical staff in the ward. The attendant, whose father is reportedly in critical condition, claimed she searched for over an hour to find a doctor or nurse but was unable to locate anyone to provide care.
As per the recent media report by Free Press Kashmir, in the viral video, the daughter was heard saying, “Patients are being left at the mercy of God.”
The controversy has been further fueled by SKIMS authorities' recent decision to impose a ban on video recordings within hospital premises. The ban has been widely criticized, with many social media users speculating that it was introduced to prevent the exposure of operational shortcomings and negligence within the hospital.
Medical dialogues had earlier reported that in a move to ensure patient safety and privacy, the authorities at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura imposed a strict ban on shooting videos and taking photographs inside the hospital premises on Friday. As the largest medical institute in the region, SKIMS issued this order to maintain a professional and respectful environment for all individuals within the hospital.
