Ward boy allegedly sexually harasses woman at Kolkata Hospital, arrested
Kolkata: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly molested and photographed by a ward boy on the premises of a state-run Institute of Child Health (ICH) in Kolkata. The incident comes amid heightened national outrage over the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata.
Following the woman's complaint, it has been reported that the alleged incident occurred while she was sleeping in the children's ward of Kolkata's Institute of Child Health (ICH). At the time, she was resting alongside her son, who was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The 26-year-old accused is employed as a ward boy at the hospital premises. He had entered the children’s ward, inappropriately touched and disrobed the woman according to the complaint filed by the woman.
The accused also recorded the incident on his mobile phone, the complaint added.

According to India Today, upon receiving the complaint about the incident, the Kolkata Police filed an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the accused. The police also seized Pal's mobile phone and sent it for forensic examination.
The accused was then presented before a local court, which has remanded him to police custody while the investigation continues.
This incident comes amid widespread outrage from the medical community, which has been galvanized by the recent rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. The accused in that case, a civic volunteer, was arrested the following day. The brutal assault and murder of the young doctor had already sparked significant protests and calls for justice throughout India.
The hospital administration has expressed shock over the situation and has committed to a comprehensive review of their security protocols.
