Wardhannapet Hospital Superintendent resigns following reported rodent bite incident

Warangal: Following the reported rodent bite incident involving the body of a road accident victim at Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital, the hospital superintendent has resigned from the administrative post.

The superintendent submitted his resignation to the Warangal District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) on Wednesday. However, he will continue to serve at the hospital as an orthopaedic surgeon, reports the Daily.

Dr Bharat, who is currently working as a Civil Assistant Surgeon at the same hospital, has been appointed as the new superintendent in his place, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The incident occurred after the body of a resident of Raiyaparthy in Warangal district was brought to the hospital mortuary following his death in a road accident on the evening of September 19. The body was placed on a stretcher inside the mortuary for post-mortem examination on September 20.

According to the family, when they visited the mortuary, they noticed what appeared to be rodent bite injuries on the deceased’s left eye. The family members subsequently questioned hospital staff over the condition of the body.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) directed the Warangal District Collector to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a comprehensive report by October 27.

Speaking to TNIE, Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital Superintendent admitted that he had resigned from the post of superintendent and submitted his resignation letter to Warangal District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr B. Raja Reddy.

He said he had been appointed as superintendent around two months ago and attributed his resignation to personal reasons. He clarified that he would continue to serve as an orthopaedic surgeon at the same hospital.

The superintendent said he resigned from the administrative post due to personal reasons and would continue his duties as an orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital.
