West Bengal: Govt issues directives for prevention of overcrowding at Hospitals
Kolkata: The West Bengal government has issued directives following which two top medical colleges in Kolkata have begun to take initiatives to prevent overcrowding at the entry and exit gates of the hospitals.
Various other hospitals are planning to begin the same procedure to decongest the entry points to all the hospitals. Because of the overcrowding at the entry gates of various medical colleges in the city, the ambulances and other emergency vehicles often face difficulties while taking patients or emergency health-related items.

The two medical colleges which are carrying out the initial drive of decongestion are the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and Calcutta Medical College, which would be eventually followed by other medical colleges as well.
RG Kar Medical College has two gates which often get overcrowded due to the huge rush of patients at the hospital. Similarly, there are around six gates at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital which also gets overcrowded due to patient rush. As per a media report in the Millennium Post, the ambulances carrying critical patients to the emergency ward of the Calcutta Medical College face difficulties while entering through the gate.
The officials of the medical college are reportedly taking steps to ensure that the ambulances do not remain parked inside the hospital compound unnecessarily. The ambulances have been directed to leave the hospital compound once the patient. Further, ambulances would not be allowed to be parked inside the premises unethically, said officials from two medical colleges.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about an incident where to reduce the unnecessary crowding of hospitals premises and to maintain the hygiene of the hospital, SCB Medical College and Hospital had re-introduced the one-attendant-per-patient rule. Per patient, one attendant's entry will be permitted; if additional entry passes are required, two passes may be given with the doctor's approval. Further, no unauthorized access would be granted to the hospital wards anymore.
